In the grand scheme of things, I’m like Pakistan
So for my War on Terror class, I had to write about whether or not Pakistan was a real ally of the United States.
The gist of my response was: If the relationship between Pakistan and the United States was thought of as a soap opera series, Pakistan’s actions make perfect sense. In the soap opera series, Pakistan is the bitter, jilted ex-girlfriend of the United States. While two are publicly friendly, Pakistan is nothing but brewing schemes to get back at the ex-boyfriend who has angered her… Pakistan is only nice to United States because she wants to get benefits out of the ex. In this case, it’d be financial aid of over $1 billion a year, military guidance and security support to gain more status as a world player. Of course, the United States isn’t giving out all of that out of the goodness of its heart. They are only giving out the support so that Pakistan will help them in the War on Terror, specifically the war in Afghanistan. But like all angry ex-girlfriends, they could care less what happens to their ex-boyfriend. Of course, like all manipulative ex-girlfriends, they said they care and they say they’re helping out, but let’s be honest. The well’s been poisoned. It’s time for America to get a new friend.
My professor’s response: Do you speak from personal experience?
