When Democrats derailed a GOP Latino nominee | Washington Examiner →
Another example: if you tell Democrats that most Democratic senators were members of the KKK several decades ago, they’ll deny and have a mild seizure. I just don’t like Sotomayor on principle because she is supposed to interpret the law as a judge, but she’s into being an activist and ignoring the law. The Constitution is quite secondary to her and it’s all about let’s care for the poor and the needy.
I urge everyone to read this. I copied and pasted an excerpt but the entire thing is worth quoting. The way the Democrats treated Estrada was appalling. To this day it has gone unnoticed and I don’t quite understand why.
They had nothing to go after on Estrada, and their line of attack lied on a series of classified memos he wrote while working at the Office of the Solicitor General. There was no specific claims from the Democrats of what those memos contained.
The whole operation was orchestrated by a number of left-wing interest groups who labeled Estrada as “dangerous” because he was Latino. Allowing Bush to nominate a Hispanic to the Court of Appeals would have destroyed these organizations who so much depend on the ability of Democrats to promote the misguided view that they are the party of and for minorities.
The whole thing became a disaster and Estrada ended up withdrawing his name. In the process, they kept a good and qualified man from serving in a court which many view as a gateway to the Supreme Court. They destroyed any chances of Miguel Estrada ever becoming the first Hispanic to serve in the highest court of the land. They used everything they had in their hands to keep this man as far away from power.
So when you see Democrats touting Sotomayor’s nomination as this historic moral victory that only their party could have achieved — laugh, laugh hard. And tell them they can keep their race-hustling tactics and their historically racist political party to themselves.
